Staff Information Packet

Getting to know us

The following information is meant to help you get better acquainted with the ministry of Sunshine Acres, and what you can expect if you become a part of our summer staff. We hope this is helpful, but if you have any other questions, feel free to call and talk to us.

General Information

The camp is located on 45 acres of mostly woods. The Roundout Creek flows through one edge of the property mostly for fishing and canoeing purposes. All meals are served in the Lodge Dining Room. There are 4 girls and 4 boys cabins. Each cabin is capable of holding 10 campers and 2 counselors. Each average size session consists of  80 campers.  Non-counselor staff will be provided rooms in the staff house for the summer. Morning devotional times are held in the chapel as well as all Sunday morning services. There is also a camp-out (sleeping out in the woods) every session for the campers and staff, so you might want to bring a sleeping bag with you.

Staff Compensation

Staff members are given a salary based on the position they are filling and the length of time they work during the summer.  If you have questions regarding the exact amount, you should contact the camp directly.  Salaries are paid out at the end of the summer before you leave; however, you are allowed to take an advance on a portion of your salary during the summer.

In addition to your salary, you will be given one day off per session.  We also offer a Staff Sponsorship Program which enables staff members to help raise funds which may be applied to an additional salary.  Family and friends are encouraged to sponsor you.
All of your meals and your sleeping quarters will be provided free of charge.  You will only need to pay for anything purchased in the Gift Shop or Dug Out.

Staff Qualifications

Certain staff positions require special certifications such as Lifeguard, WSI, EMT or Nurse.  You must have the adequate qualifications to apply.  If you are not sure if what you have is acceptable in our state, give us a call.
In New York State you must be at least 16 years of age to work and 18 years old to work in Senior Counselor positions.  The State allows us to have 16-17 year olds as Junior Counselors with 10 campers per Senior Counselor.

Application Process

omplete the entire application.  Answer all the questions that you can.  If you are unable to answer, please explain why and do not just leave it blank.  Once the application is received, it will be reviewed and you can expect a phone call.  Please give your Staff Reference Forms to two church leaders and have them mail them directly to us at PO Box 1903, Seaford NY  11783. A staff contract will then be sent to you for you to review and sign.  We expect you to read it carefully and sign it.  Medical forms need to be filled out and submitted by anyone who is 17 years old and under.  All applications need to be completed prior to camp arrival.

Doctrinal Statement

We as members of the Sunshine Acres believe that the bible in it’s entirety is the true and inspired Word of God: God is three divine persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary in the likeness of sinful men; that lived and preached among men, was crucified and voluntarily shed his blood at Calvary’s cross for the remission of sins of those who believe; that he was buried and rose bodily on the third day, later appeared among men’ ascended into heaven, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father; that those who truly believe on Him will be saved, and He will one day return bodily to earth to redeem His own for the eternal blessedness of the saved and the eternal punishment of the lost.
