New Church Rep Instructions
Your church has been invited to send children to Sunshine Acres Summer Camp this year through the YPBU. The fee per camper is only $240. Since it actually costs us much more for each camper to attend, the difference comes from the donations of churches and individuals who believe that every child needs Jesus.
Besides sending kids from your church, we encourage you to use this as an extension of your outreach program to invite neighborhood children for a week of fun, fresh air and learning about the Gospel.
If your church does plan to send children, you should appoint a Church Representative – one or two people who will find children, hand out paperwork, keep the church informed, etc… Church reps will receive copies of the camper’s evaluations to help them with any follow up the church wishes to do.
If a child’s family is able to pay the full $240, we would encourage them to do so. Every child’s family is expected to pay $40 to insure the child will show up. The remaining $200 can be covered by your church or any individual or group.
Parents should send the application with the $40 deposit directly to:
Sharon Dockweiler, Registrar
7 Elizabeth Drive
Bethpage, NY 11714
The remainder of the fee and the paperwork should be received by June 5th. Late fees will not be charged for new campers.
When I receive an application, I will send a post card to the parents giving them the directions to the Bus Stop and let them know if I need anything more from them. Every few weeks, I will send you a list of all of the children I have received things from.
To attend Sessions 1-4, children must be 8-12 years old and qualify as ‘disadvantaged’, but our definition is very loose. See the back of the application.
Family Camper Week (ages 8-15) gives kids who don’t qualify as disadvantaged a chance to attend Sunshine Acres without taking a bus seat away from a child who needs it. It also gets Christian parents up to the camp to see what we’re about and raise ministry awareness.
Teen Week is for ages 13-15 only.
Please remember that we are not set up to handle children who have special needs or require extra attention. Any child who cannot attend a regular class for children his/her age should not attend Sunshine Acres. As a church rep, if a child is to be sent home, and the parents are unable or unwilling to collect him/her, you are responsible to come and get the child. (One church rep who drove a child home last year actually led the boy to the Lord in the car!).
Medical Information
All we need according to NYS law is:
- The date of these 3 vaccinations: MMR, Polio and Dipth-tetanus.
- A completed Meningitis Response form, which is on the back of the Medical form. (NOTE: The child does not have to have the Meningitis Vacine).
- The parent’s signature at the bottom of the page. The child does not have to see a doctor, but we cannot administer so much as an aspiring to a child whose doctor has not signed the form.
Please keep in mind
- No camper whose paperwork and fees have not been received by the registrar 5 days before the bus leaves will be allowed to attend during that session.
- Any paperwork or fees received by the PO Box, the camp or any other person connected with the camp will not be acknowledged until they are in the Registrar’s hands.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or send me an email. Perhaps you can encourage a small group of individuals at your church to sponsor children. (The camp is in great need of every camper it can get, so please do see what you can do to raise funds for campers.) Go to the Sponsor-A-Child page and use the link to download a copy of the Sponsor-A-Child form.
